Catching up on my Feathered Friends

I've been participating in Helen Godden's 2018 Block of the Month, Feathered Friends featuring birds of Australia.  Here are a few that I've painted.  They still need to be free motion quilted, but they'll get there.

I hope you get to quilt today!

Free Motion Friday - Feathered Friends Block 4

I'm doing Helen Godden's Feathered Friends block of the month and this is block four.  The blocks are painted with Lumiere metallic acrylic fabric paints and then stitched in black thread.  I made a few alterations to this block and I love the way it turned out!

Here are the big paisleys with feathers and a circle inside.

Here are the medium sized paisleys.

At the top are the small sized paisleys adn then the silver moon of course.  Such fun stitching this.

I did some ovals on a string and then echoed them.  We also did some multipass flowers too.

Oh such fun!

I hope you get to quilt today!

Helen Godden's Zebra Finches

I am having such fun with Helen Godden's Feathered Friends Block of the Month.  Here's April's block - Zebra Finches.

The first day of painting.  Then I got too tired to finish.

All done with the painting.  It's Lumiere metallic acrylic paint.

Time to have a blast quilting.

Done!  So much fun.  I can't wait for May's block.

Free Motion Friday - Kookaburra from Helen Godden's Feather Friends BOM

I'm doing Helen Godden's Feathered Friends Block of the Month and it's a blast.  The first month we did Parakeets or budgies.  This month we did a Kookaburra.  It was such fun to quilt!  I think my favorite part is Helen's Stack of Rocks in the red at the bottom.  I know I'll be using that texture again soon!

My boys loved watching me paint on fabric and had to get in the action too...

Helen Godden's Feathered Friends Block of the Month

I have adored Helen Godden's work for a long time and have taken 1 class from her in Houston.  I have always wanted to take a class on her painting techniques.  Then I saw her block of the month for this year and I knew this was the first block of the month I had to make.  Yes, it truly is my first.  It's all Australian birds and with two pet birds of my own I knew this was for me.  Here's my painted birdies.  You can still join in by visiting her website, www.helengodden.com and searching the store to pay the joining fee.  It's such fun!  I can't wait for next month's block.

 Such fun!

Free Motion Friday - Helen Godden's Christmas Advent Quilt Along - Part 4

I've finished 6 more Christmas ornaments since last week and I'm only one behind at the moment.  Here's what I have so far.

I had fun making a "rose" and then adding some extra quilting to it.

The upper left ornament was supposed to look like a spider web, but I thought it looked like a peppermint candy so I made it that way.  It's one of my favorites.

I can't wait to see what Bonnie Hunter has in store for us for On Ringo Lake Clue 4 today.

Free Motion Friday - Helen Godden's Christmas Advent Quilt Along - Part 3

It's day 8 of the 31 day blog writing challenge and I'm still going strong.  It's a good thing I'm working on so many things right now!

Here's my progress.  I did days seven and eight and added some more quilting to two ornaments.

This is day 7.  I added the extra inside curves to add density.  I find that when quilting a quilt I want to have fairly consistent density across the quilt.  So I added some extra lines in places to give me that effect.

I must admit I didn't like my first attempt at either of these two circles.  So what to do?  Duh...add more thread!  So I did and I'm a happy camper.

And here is day 8.  I love geometric spirals.

Excitedly awaiting the new On Ringo Lake Mystery clue from Bonnie Hunter...

I hope you get to quilt today!

Helen Godden's Christmas Advent Quilt Along - Part 2

It's Day 7 for the 31 Day Quilt Blogging Challenge!

Today I show you the second steps of my Christmas Advent Quilt Along from Helen Godden.  She's hosting it on her Facebook page and it's so much fun.  She gives you the pattern for a wreath and each day posts the next step.

Today you can see I've added circles 2-6.  I can hardly wait for the next one to come out!

It's going to be such fun to see all the different motifs fill in.

Love this one with stipples.

These two are favorites as well.  I love Helen's Stack of Rocks.

I also stitched down the words at the top.

I hope you get to quilt today!

Helen Godden's Christmas Advent Quilt Along - Part 1

It's Day 6 for the 31 Day Quilt Blogging Challenge!

Today I show you the start of my Christmas Advent Quilt Along from Helen Godden.  She's hosting it on her Facebook page and it's so much fun.  She gives you the pattern for a wreath and each day posts the next step.

Here's the first step.  The quilt all marked and basted with pins.  Why pins?  That's a good question.  I like pins because they let me flex the fabric around a bit if I need to.

And now I've stitched down all the circles and the bow.  I chose to use a Glide 40 weight poly thread because I like the extra sheen to it.

The first circle all filled up with a fun star.  I added some extra stitching to the inside to emphasize the star.

I love to free motion quilt and this project is such fun!

I hope you get to quilt today!
See you tomorrow!
