Island Batik Steam Engine Quilt - Part 3

I have had such fun quilting this project made with Island Batik's Steam Engine collection.

With this project I have decided to let the fabrics inspire my free motion quilting choices.  For this gray fabric I chose to do random squares.

Here I did triangles to form a star and some simple continuous curve in the small squares that only measure 1 inch.

This gray got a zigzag/chevron motif.

On this fabric I was trying to decide which color thread to use.  The funny thing is I chose neither of these colors.  I figure you want to see it, so I used blue instead.

The blue looks great, doesn't it?

For this chain link fabric I made arches on the bottom.

And then when back and made them from the top too.  Super easy to do and a great texture was created.

For this purple fans fabric I chose to do a few classic feathers.

And feathers in these two purple connected rectangles as well.

For this gear fabric I tried to make gears.  Three arches with a chunky arch in the middle.  It's hard to see, but it was fun to do.

This piece was so large I made three gear arches.

Island Batik Steam Engine Collection Quilt - Part 2

I love being an Island Batik Ambassador!  This Steam Engine collection is just gorgeous.  I love how the quilt turned out.  Now on to the quilting!

In the big outer rectangles I quilted tall slim triangles to match the fabric

For the hexagon fabric I simply quilted around the edge of all the hexagons.

Next was the big blue gear fabric.  I did a wiggle down the small blue squares.

I did a zigzag of the squiggles in the longer border.

For the swirling triangles I decided to simply put some triangles around the edges.

More soon!

Random Inspiration

This was the fabric on a chair in the waiting room at a doctor's office.  I love the pattern.

A Greek key design on the bottom of the ottomans.  Such fun!  You could piece it....it would take a LOT of patience.

I love the shape of these pots.

Island Batik Steam Engine Collection Quilt Part 1

That moment when you are almost done with a quilt and have to decide on a border....and you get stuck.  I made this quilt with a gorgeous stack of fat quarters from Island Batik's Steam Engine collection.  I had a blast playing with color placement.  But did it need a border?

Here is the quilt without a border.

Here is a light gray border.

And a bluey purple gray border.

I decided to skip the border and get right to quilting!  I picked out the perfect shades of Aurifil to quilt my project with.

Ready to start quilting!  It's layered with my favorite Hobbs 80/20 batting of course.  The prints in this collection are very graphic so I decided to use them as inspiration for my quilting patterns.

I started with this gray and white fabric that looks like spiky branches.  What did I quilt?  Spikes of course!

For this dotted fabric I decided on large arches towards the inside blue fabric.

More to come soon!

Island Batik Ambassadors A Piece Of Blog Hop and Giveaways!

It's my turn for the Island Batik Ambassadors A Piece Of Blog Hop!

A Piece of...?  A piece of EVERYTHING in my case.  I received the amazing Little Sir, Little Miss collection which has 40, yes FORTY, fabrics in it.  It was a real challenge figuring out how to use all these amazing fabrics in one quilt.

I had fun taking a picture of this quilt on a beautiful fall day.  I love how the yellow leaves match the quilt.

There are a bunch of different patterns in this collection.  The half circles came in these colors:

Really fun dots!

Triangles

Stripes

And numbers!  They make this math teacher's heart happy!

I designed a quilt on Electric Quilter and then had fun putting in fabrics until I'd used all forty.  I really like the stripes on the outside of the quilt.  I think it's a fun texture.  And as always it's a blast to work with Island Batik fabrics.  They're beautiful to sew with.  Most of the pieces were of course cut with my Accuquilt Go Big! and sewn with Aurifil Thread.  Hobbs 80/20 batting is inside the quilt.

I'm offering a giveaway of five fat quarters from this collection!  To enter leave a comment below.  The winner will be drawn at the conclusion of the blog hop.

Island Batik is giving away a precut pack of this gorgeous collection.  Click the Rafflecopter link to enter! a Rafflecopter giveaway
