Free Motion Friday - Filled Feathers - Idea 2

I wanted to put a braid into my feathers this week.  I started with hooked on feathers.

Then I started filling the feathers with braid.

In the picture below I went back over the center of the braid so all of the lines in the braid were doubled.

Here you can see me going back over the centers.

What about a skinny braid?!  I love it.  You have to be careful to follow the feather's curve as you go.

What if you keep the braid close to one edge? This happens....

What if you curve the braid chunks.....

Or if the two braids are next to each other at the bottom of the feather...

I LOVE THIS TEXTURE!  I can't wait to play with this some more.  Those braids REALLY stand out.

Free Motion Friday - Feathers with Circles Part 2

I continue to play around with feathers and circles.  Here's a few circles at the base of the feather.  They all kind of run together.  Not my favorite.

I like this!  Circles on the side.  These are done in random feathers.

And these are done in all the feathers!

And here are the circles when they're not next to each other.

This is the back of my quilt with all my feathers flowing around.

And the front.

My new Island Batik Ambassadors box of fabric is supposed to come TODAY!

Free Motion Friday - Feathers with Circles Part 1

Welcome to Free Motion Friday!

I'm working on a quilt that needs feathers with circles.  I decided to play around with that idea on my new Doodle Quilt.  Here's what happened so far. 

Circles inside the feathers...

Circles outside the feathers.

Circles on stems inside the feathers.

Circles in some of the feathers.

Circles going through the feather.  I don't like this one at all...

More exploration on this idea next week!

Free Motion Friday - Helen Godden's Christmas Advent Quilt Along - Part 3

It's day 8 of the 31 day blog writing challenge and I'm still going strong.  It's a good thing I'm working on so many things right now! 

Here's my progress.  I did days seven and eight and added some more quilting to two ornaments.

This is day 7.  I added the extra inside curves to add density.  I find that when quilting a quilt I want to have fairly consistent density across the quilt.  So I added some extra lines in places to give me that effect.

I must admit I didn't like my first attempt at either of these two circles.  So what to do?  Duh...add more thread!  So I did and I'm a happy camper.

And here is day 8.  I love geometric spirals.

Excitedly awaiting the new On Ringo Lake Mystery clue from Bonnie Hunter...
