Peculiar Posies Part 1

I have become enamored with interesting textiles and textures lately.  Don't get my wrong, I LOVE batiks and cottons, but sometimes it's fun to do something really outside the box.

Two years ago I discovered Terial Magic which is a spray that makes fabric VERY stiff, like cardboard or paper.  It's great for working with challenging fabrics.

Here's a peek at my new project, Peculiar Posies.  I have been having fun with leather, taffeta, silk, velvet, all sorts of fun things.

Here you can see I've put some leathers through each other!  And I found a leather with dots poked in it.

Here's my fun new flower that includes lots of interesting fabrics.  Since I usually only use bits of fabric for applique, I have been cutting small pieces and then applying the Terial Magic.  That way I don't saturate the entire fabric, just the small part I need.  It saves in the cost of Terial Magic.

Here is a velvet flower I've created from four different colors of hand-dyed velvet.  Such fun!

I hope you get to quilt today!

Island Batik Ambassadors Getaway Blog Hop

For the Getaway Blog Hop I received a collection of fabric called Boho.  It's Ebony Love of Love Bug Studios signature collection for Island Batik.  I adore all the warm luscious colors of this collection.  Since I'm on a getaway, I wanted to sit and stare at a beautiful sunset.  That was my inspiration and I put the fabrics in to Electric Quilter and started playing with color placement.

Here is a sequence of making the quilt on a quilt retreat at Gruber's Quilt Shop.  The largest shop in Minnesota!  I cut all the pieces before hand on my mom's Accuquilt Go Big electric cutter.  It's amazing how much time that saves!  It was pieced with lots of colors of Aurifil thread to match the different fabrics.

My amazing mom saw the paisley fabrics in the collection and wanted to quilt it in paisleys for me.  She used Hobbs 80/20 batting in the quilt.  It's awesome.  Check it out:

I love the way this quilt sparkles like a sunset on the ocean!  I'm giving away four Island Batik fat quarters to some luck winner.  To enter simply leave a comment about where you saw your favorite sunset!

Island Batik is also giving away a rainbow of 20 Island Batik Fat Quarter Basics.  You can enter with the link below.

Black and White Blog Hop

When I saw that Carla at Creatin' in the Sticks was doing a Black and White Blog Hop I jumped on board!  I love black and white prints and it was also the motivation for me to finish this quilt that had been sitting as a top for months.  The pattern in Brimfield Awakening and it's English Paper Pieced.

 Here are my individual blocks:

.

For the quilting on this project I decided to do a simple all over fill with a few different patterns.

I love the final project!  It's fun to look at all the prints.
