My Mother's Sunflowers

My mother made this quilt at the Minnesota Quilter's Show a few weeks ago and I love the way it turned out so I wanted to show it to you!  It's called Sunflower Serenade by Frieda Anderson.

I love the quilting on the leaf!

I love the texture on the sunflowers.

The texture added to the leaves is fantastic!

Free Motion Friday - Island Batik Ambassadors Modern Quilt Challenge #3 - Part 2

My Island Batik Ambassadors Modern Quilt Challenge quilt is finished!  I had a lot of fun with the background quilting on this piece.  ON the left you can see that the background fill goes across and on the right the background fill goes up and down.  The entire quilt was quilted in various colors of my favorite Aurifil thread.  The batting is my favorite Hobbs 80/20.  It's a great weight for a baby quilt.

Here's a closer look at the fill pattern.

And I actually took a glamour shot of the quilt!  We might've been replacing furniture and it was conveniently out on our deck...

Island Batik Ambassadors Modern Quilt Challenge #3 - Part 1

This is my third quilt for the Island Batik Ambassadors Modern Quilt Challenge.  The first two didn't meet the size requirements (that's what I get for not reading the directions first, LOL).  So I designed this quilt to be crib size and I'm sure that a future baby will enjoy it.  I used some turquoise scraps and a peachy/orange for an accent color.  Here's the top hanging on my design wall.

I started by stitching matchsticks in the small 1 inch sections of both blue and orange.  Then I added a geometric spiral in centers and a repeated circle pattern in the larger outer sections.

You'll have to come back Friday to see what I did to the background!

I hope you get to quilt today!

Jodi Robinson Class Inspiration

I am not a long arm quilter.  HOWEVER, I love what some of the long arm teachers do so every once in a while I find myself in a long arm class.  I enjoyed the new Handiquilter Amara.  Here's what I did....

This was another students work.........I like the different fills in the circles.

Minnesota Quilter's Show - Frieda Anderson Class

My mom and I had such fun in a Frieda Anderson class making this seaside village.  Her hand-dyed fabrics are so beautiful!

Free Motion Friday - Feathered Friends Block 4

I'm doing Helen Godden's Feathered Friends block of the month and this is block four.  The blocks are painted with Lumiere metallic acrylic fabric paints and then stitched in black thread.  I made a few alterations to this block and I love the way it turned out!

Here are the big paisleys with feathers and a circle inside.

Here are the medium sized paisleys.

At the top are the small sized paisleys adn then the silver moon of course.  Such fun stitching this.

I did some ovals on a string and then echoed them.  We also did some multipass flowers too.

Oh such fun!

I hope you get to quilt today!

Minnesota Quilter's Show - Kathy McNeil Class and Appliquik!

Our Minnesota Quilter's Show was last weekend and I had a blast!  One of my classes was with the amazing Kathy McNeil.  Her pictorial quilts are simply stunning.  I've always wanted to take a class from her.  She was also teaching us how to use the Appliquik tools which I was also interested to learn.  Look at how I managed to turn this crazy shaped piece successfully......YES, it took a LONG time, but was well worth it.

I also managed really tiny pieces!

Starting to add pieces!

And the octopus is all glued down!  I used Elmer's School Glue and a VERY fine tip nozzle.

Here you can see that I've blanket stitched around all the edges and the background fabric still looks nice and flat.

I had fun with the eyeball....

The whole top complete....now to layer it!
