Welcome to the Great Outdoors Blog Hop from the Island Batik Ambassadors! I'm sew excited to show you what I've been making from the fabulous Sweet Tweets collection.
When I received these fabrics in the mail I was so excited. They are so springy and fun (this was in February in Minnesota....think snow!) I love the combination of lime, turquoise and orange.
Here is a sample I made of all the fabrics in the line for Island Batiks sales reps.
I love these colors so much I knew I wanted to make a throw size quilt. I used the gorgeous Aurifil thread for piecing. It's such a joy to work with.
Here you can see part of my work in progress. Yes, those are Legos. They are all over my house with two little boys! Why the John Deere Flannel? Simple...if you have flannel over your ironing surface it sticks to the fabric and you get significantly less stretch. When I learned this it was the only piece of flannel in my house. I suppose I should get something less busy, but it always makes me smile so I use it.
I purposely designed this quilt so all the pieces (except those that are 12 inch finished) could be cut on my Accuquilt Go cutter. It's amazing how much time that saves! My mother says now she can buy and cut fabric faster than she can sew it.
The top all done! I am really happy I used the dark turquoise fabric for the background. It's one of the darkest fabrics in the collection, but it sure does make the other colors pop.
All quilted up and bound. I was out of turquoise so I used a yellow from the collection. I like to use different colored bindings. I think it's fun. This quilt has Hobbs 80/20 cotton/poly blend inside. My favorite batting.
I must admit that I saved my scraps from cutting off my half square triangles. Aren't they fun? I made them into this little block. I'll have to get it quilted soon.
Be sure to check out all the other amazing Island Batik Ambassadors on the hop! It ends tomorrow and then there will be prizes! Speak of which...
