Free Motion Friday - Triple Circles

It's time for a new design!  I love circles.  It's a bit of an addiction for me....quilting them, buying dot prints.  They're just fun.  I decided to play with circles for this fill pattern.  I did a large circle with three small circles inside it.  You can find written instructions here.

Start by stitching in the ditch around your block.  Then make a circle about 1 to 1 1/2 inches in diameter.

Stitch three small circles inside it.

Travel to where you want to start the next circle and repeat the steps:  large circle, three small circles.  I try to vary where I put the small circles so they're random.

When you hit an edge do a partial circle as shown below.

Here you can see that I've done a lot of the edge.  Clearly I need to go back and fill in the middle area!

Find the safety pin with your eyes.  Look forward from it.  You can see that I had to add an extra circle in because there was a narrow space.  Is anyone else going to notice?  Nope.  It took me a while to figure out why I took this picture!

Here is another option for if you end up with a narrow space:  make a small circle with three tiny circles in it!  It's a bit crazy, but it works.

Getting there!  Can you tell where I had to throw in small circles?  It takes a while to find and it doesn't really affect the overall look of the pattern.

Tada!  All done.  Triple Circles.  I think this particular pattern would look fabulous on modern quilts!

Don't forget to share what you've been stitching on my Machine Applique Adventures Facebook Group!  Yes...even share your machine quilting!  It's really fun to see what you've tried.

I hope you get to quilt today!

  1. Thank you, Suzy. I'm going to make a notebook with the instruction sheets in it, and the dates of the post so I can come back if I need a reminder. I do like this one. Well, I've liked them all!
