Modern Mini Applique Block 79

This one is definitely a butterfly!  I love the abstract wings.  It was made with fabrics I cut out for other blocks and didn't like.  Leftovers can be fun!

I hope you get to quilt today!

Hello Fall Blog Hop!

It's fall!?  How did that happen?  Time flies.  For the Hello Fall Blog Hop I decided I wanted to create a new pillow. Carla with Creatin' in the Sticks always has such fun blog hops.

I went digging in my Island Batik scrap bin and found some beauties leftover from a 10 inch square stack.  It was a challenge making sure I had enough of each color but with different backgrounds I was able to persevere.

I started with some maple leaf blocks in pale green and gold.  At this point where I had all four blocks made I realized that I hadn't put on any stems...what to do?

I decided that they needed applique stems.  And while I was at it I decided to make them fancy stems.  Which ended morphing into this:

I love how the stitching adds to the design.

I was at this point where I'd added a border when it occurred to me that this would be a nice sized pillow.

It was Sunday and my preferred pillow form store was closed....but Mom came to my rescue as she had one!  Happy Fall!

Be sure to check out the other amazing Bloggers on the hop!

I hope you get to quilt today!

Island Batik Ambassador's It's in the Bag Blog Hop

I'm excited to share my newest Island Batik Ambassador Blog Hop project!  It's called the Flipped Out Bag and it's a pattern from By Annie.com.

By Annie was amazing in sending the ambassadors the pattern, stabilizer, and all the accessories we would need for our bags!  Thank you so much!  I chose the Flipping Out bag because it looked like a great way to store some of the supplies on my sewing desk and an easy way to take them with me when I go out and about with my sewing machine....or when I will again.  I made the large size so it would fit my tall tools.

All By Annie patterns have these fabulous little labels you copy and cut out and then use to label all your pieces.  They were certainly helpful in knowing which piece was which!

The pattern also had me premake the little binding rings.  What a good idea when the binding is so small.  There were videos to go along with my bag called Add-On Videos that were well worth it!  Since this was my very first By Annie bag it was really nice to be able to see some of the steps I wasn't quite sure about.  I highly recommend the videos.  When you purchase your pattern a coupon is included for you to log into the By Annie website and get the video for free.  It was really easy to do.

Here's my bag all zipped up!  This fabric is from Island Batik's new Buttercup collection.  It's a range of soft blues and yellows and I'll show you more next month!

All done!  It will hold my spray bottle and magic wand when it closes too!  It's just what I wanted and it already sits on my sewing table.
