Modern Mini Applique Block 23

When I started this block I started with the arch and then was trying to decide what would go inside it.  I'm not sure how I ended up with the rectangle, but I like it. It sort of reminds me of a kayak?

    I'm wondering why the fabric is different on the underside of the applique? Is this a tear away stabilizer ? TY!
