Witchy Stitchy Blog Hop

I LOVE Halloween quilts!  I think it's because of the colors.  Orange, lime green, black, purple.  Such fun.  When Just Let Me Quilt announced this blog hop I knew just what I wanted to do.  I saw a pumpkin at MQX carved with a quilt block design a while ago.  And the idea was born...

Of course I used my favorite Island Batik fabrics to do my wallhanging.

I wanted blocks that were fairly simple and easy to identify by quilters.  I pieced the blocks and then fused down all the pieces.

For the background I used Lori Kennedy's bat design.  It seemed perfect for this Halloween quilt.

Inside each black quilt block I did some fun filler pattern to flatten the black areas.

All done and sew much fun!

I hope you get to quilt today!

Enter if You Dare Blog Hop!

I LOVE Halloween quilts.  I buy more Halloween fabric than Christmas fabric!  So when Marian at Seams to be Sew let me know about this hop I couldn't wait to join.

Every year I do a pumpkin art project with my students at school (I teach third grade).  We make symmetrical pumpkins.  As I hung them on the wall this year, it occurred to me that they would make a great quilt.  So I got started!  I pulled my favorite orange Island Batik fabrics of course!

I cut the orange pumpkin to go under the black (1/8 inside the outside line on that side).  Then I used the fusible paper from the black to help me align the eye and eyebrow pieces.

I cut out the back of the fusible behind the big orange piece so it wouldn't be too stiff.  This orange is from Island Batik's new Pumpkin Patch line!  I just love it.

Here's the black half before cutting.

The final pumpkins!

The top is done!  Ready to layer.

And it's quilted!

I had fun quilting pumpkins and swirls in the border.

I also had a blast with one of Marian's Halloween Faces for "The Challenge".  This is about 8 inches square and so much fun.  Who doesn't love a one-eyed lime green creature?  Her directions were great and easy to follow!

Sew Much Fun Halloween Blog Hop!

I LOVE Halloween quilts!  I probably buy more Halloween fabric than Christmas fabric because I just love the oranges and purples and lime greens.  The dancing skeletons and pumpkins and spiders.  I love them!

So...what do I make?

This time I decided to try a quilt based on some fabric inspiration.  I fell in love with this fabric with swirls and designs on the pumpkins.  Originally I was going to applique a design, but then I had another idea.

I made a pumpkin stencil out of freezer paper and then painted it with silver Lumiere fabric paint.

Then I used black thread to add detail to my pumpkin....oh, what fun!

Last, but not least, I decided to add some silver rick rack in the binding.  I love adding rick rack in the binding for a little extra touch!
