Quilting my Dad's Digital Art - Part 3

BEADS!  I had such a blast playing with beads.  The quilt is all stitched and I took a ton of pictures of the beads on the quilts so I could decide what I like...

Hmmm....

You'll have to wait and see what I've done!

I hope you get to quilt today!

Free Motion Friday - A Sampler

I was getting a class proposal together the other day and I realized I needed a sample for a picture for my Beginning Free Motion Class.  So what to do?  Make one of course!

I pulled out two stencils I forgot I had, traced them.  Then stitched them.  Then I added a ton of different background fills.  I love how it turned out!

Let me know if your guild might be interested in this class!

I love that this has nine petals.  Now I want to play with the stencil some more...

I hope you get to quilt today!

Quilting my Father's Digital Art - Part 2

I started quilting dad's art by doing a sashiko pattern across the entire surface. This was a challenge because I wasn't sure I wanted to wet the fabric and I wasn't sure how I was going to mark it.  I started with thin doctor paper (the kind that is on the doctor's exam tables) marked in my design.  This didn't last long as I realized I didn't want to rip it all off.  So I marked dots with a purple air erase pen to know where my curves were.  I used five different colors of pink Aurifil 50 weight thread to accomplish this down the length of the quilt.  I knew I had to change colors as the quilt gets darker and darker.

Then I wanted to add so pizzazz to the black lines so I found this AMAZING Wonderfil GlaMore thread which is 12 weight rayon with a twist of metallic in it.  I went through the needle beautifully and only broke once on me.

Here I am testing it out finding the right tension.

See the bottom line?  It has GlaMore on the bottom.  It adds just a few hints of sparkle.

Here is one line all done.  Both sides have been stitched.

Come back Saturday for the next step...BEADS!

You can find all my dad's art on his website here.

Just Wanna Quilt Podcast!

Hello!  I've had a blast speaking with Elizabeth Townsend of Just Wanna Quilt for her podcast.  You can check out the website here.

Kathy Shier and her daughter Suzy Webster talk about appliqué and their award winning quilts, Part 2 of 2

I did a podcast talking about my quilts and going to IQA Houston.  My chat is linked here.

Elizabeth wanted to talk to my mom too so our joint podcast is here.

And you can listen to all the Just Wanna Quilt podcasts here.

I'm going to be doing a live Facebook interview about my quilts in Houston this year with Elizabeth and I'm looking forward to it.

We talked about a lot of fun quilts including the following pictures...

What fun that was!  Have a listen and tell me what you think!

Quilting My Father's Digital Art - Part 1

I'd been wanting to quilt some of my father's digitally created art for a while.  My favorite of his was leaving me stumped, but as I was wandering around his website I found this beauty.  I knew I had to quilt it.  So I dived into the world of Spoonflower.

Here's the fabric when it came in the mail!  I was so excited.  The print is called Order to Chaos.  Can you see it?  The top is so orderly.  Perfect rows, no color in the background.  And then things get interesting at the bottom as the checkerboard gets more wonky and darker and the black lines go crazy!

How to quilt it?  I have some transparency film that I use to try patterns on top of quilt tops.  Here were a few ideas:

This one is wayyyy to busy...

Stay tuned for what happens next!  I just found out that this quilt got into International Quilt Festival Houston!  I am BEYOND excited.  Three years ago I had a quilt there that I did with my mom.  Now one with my dad!  It's a family bond.

I hope you get to quilt today!

Free Motion Friday - My NEW BOOK!

It's here!  My new book is ready!  It's self published.  I just finished my new show quilt called Gilded.  You'll have to wait a few weeks to see it.  It has 44 different designs based on paisleys, circles, and swirls.  To celebrate all that I turned it into a book!  Each page has a design with drawings of how to stitch it out step by step.  The page also has a photo of the design and a pattern you can try tracing from.

Here is a sample page...

And here are a few of the designs.  This one is called Film Reels.

I adore this one.  It's so modern.

If you are interesting in ordering a copy please send me an email at websterquilt at gmail dot com and I will send you a paypal invoice.  They are $15 plus $3 shipping in the continental US.

I hope you get to quilt today!
