English Paper Piecing Part 2

Here's the continuation of my last post.  Here's the next layer added.  I had a lot of fun fussy cutting the pieces in the outer turquoise ring so they had two circles each in them.  My fabric looks like Swiss cheese now.

And here's the final round.  Yes, there was supposed to be more and it was going to get bigger, but I decided that it wasn't working quite as well as I'd like since some of the seams were really bulky (think 6 layers of fabric...yikes).  So I decided to quit while I was ahead.  It's still really cute and fun.

Here's the back after I attached it to a piece of blue background fabric.

This is my original drawing.  It uses pieces I had leftover from my Ballet quilt.  Clearly I didn't get as far as I planned, but alls well that ends well.  And it did end well.

Classroom Inspiration

I wandered into a friend's classroom the other day and was inspired by decor she had by her desk.   These are happy pictures, especially when I spent yesterday ripping out quilting I didn't like.  Halfway done with that.

English Paper Piecing

I'll admit that I've become a bit addicted to English Paper Piecing.  It's really fun, though I do stitch my pieces together by machine.

Here's one that I've started working on.  The center star all sewn.

Here's the next pieces glued on before the paper is removed.

Free Motion Friday - Curly Hearts

It's after 10pm as I write this.  I'm exhausted!  But for good reason...I spoke and did a trunk show at Minnesota Quilters and it was a blast!  So I'm sorry that there are no written instructions at the moment.  I will update this tomorrow evening and get them put up for download, I am just too tired right now.  Fortunately, I do have a pattern all ready, so here it is...Curly Hearts in honor of Valentine's Day.

Start by making a heart with a loop at the top.

Next, outline the loop.

Repeat starting at the spot where you ended or travel to where you want to start the next one.

In the lower left corner you can see where I did the bottom part of a heart to fill the space.

And there's a tiny heart because it's all I had room for.

Quilting my Giraffe

I realized I've shown you the top of my sweet giraffe, but never the finished and quilted project.  So here he is!  I did leaf shapes with outlines in the background.

In the border I did Blobs which are kind of like the giraffe spots.  I knew whatever I did wasn't goign to show much so I wanted to do something quick.

Inspired by my Third Grader

I teach third grade.  They're a lot of fun.  One of them cut me a snowflake from a paper towel from school.  I'm not sure why they were using towels instead of paper, but the design is fabulous!

My son also came up to me the other day with this set of markers claiming, "Mom, these would make good colors for a quilt."  Yes, kiddo, they would!
